In order to make it worthwhile, you want to start with at least five coconuts. Make sure to remove the hard outer nutshell and keep the coconut milk. ( We use a blender today instead of a press because it is easier, but this is still considered virgin coconut oil.)
After it is all blended up, put in a large bucket and allow it to sit for 24 to 48 hours. The coconut should contain some yeast in it which will help to separate the oil from the water. The oil should float to the surface. In order to have an easier time extracting it, you’re going to want to put it into a smaller container and let it sit out for a while. Then, you’re going to want to put the smaller container into the fridge. As the temperature of the liquid drops to below 75°, the oil should form a hard white residue on the surface. This is your extra virgin coconut oil. You want to remove it with a spoon and gathered into its own container. This is pure organic virgin coconut oil.
